Uncover Austin’s rough-and-rowdy past on this non-haunted Wild West pub crawl through downtown. Limited to 12 guests, this 2.25-hour experience blends true outlaw history with four bar stops in the very part of town where whiskey, vice, gambling, and backroom chaos once defined the city.
You’ll follow your guide through historic downtown Austin including the old vice and warehouse district, the Driskill Hotel, and Sixth Street where some of old Austin’s wildest stories still echo. Along the way you’ll stop at four bars that are hidden gems and local favorites where you can purchase drinks and hear true stories told with local flavor and just a hint of Texas twang.
This is a fun night out for history lovers, travelers and locals who want fun, offbeat history stories and good local bars.
Some bar stops are intentionally kept off the public itinerary so we can preserve a few surprises, but your starting point and ending area will always be clear before you arrive.
We will meet outside Saturn bar at 906 Congress Ave.
Congress Avenue was the main thoroughfare of Austin in it's wild west years. Its historically preserved buildings remind us of a time when the honor code was king and men solved their disputes amongst themselves. The Congress Avenue section of our tour will include a few wild stories and a stop at a neighborhood bar.
In wild west Austin this section of town was once a roaring red light and warehouse district. We'll visit our second bar here. The time spend here includes the bar stop and the stories along the way.
This beautiful 1886 hotel will be a walk-through on our way to our 4th bar.
You can't tell the story of Austin's outlaw years without 6th Street. We will take a stroll down 6th street on our way to our 4th bar. We won't be visiting any bars on 6th street but the tour will finish 1 block away so you can come back and finish your night dirty.
We have two possible ending points, so this is mostly likely where your tour will end. This is a whiskey and tequila bar with one of the best little taco stands in Austin.
