Meeting and pickup

Meeting point

Park at Cairngorm Mountain. When you get to the picnic benches next to the main entrance look for the guide with a grey 'Lost Sheep' cap.

End point
This activity ends back at the meeting point.

What to expect

Get familiar with what it takes to explore the Scottish Hills this winter.

On this practical course we will introduce you to the wide range of skills that are required to safely experience hiking in the winter. We aim to create a fun-filled adventure that gets you planning a hike, looking at forecasts and deciding suitable journeys, whilst also giving you plenty of opportunities to get using crampons and ice axes effectively.

After the Welcome to Winter Hiking course you will feel more confident about which skills are vital to enjoy winter hiking and you will have a greater understanding of where your personal skills are at.
