2-Hour Fish and Gin Guided Tasting with Lunch in Pompeii

2 hours (approximately)
Offered in: English and 1 more

A journey into the sea stolen from Vesuvius, told as a secret message enclosed in a precious bottle. We offer a tasting of sea products accompanied by fine gins, which recall the flavors of the waters. We are in Pompeii, a few steps from the archaeological remains of the ancient city. Before the volcanic eruptions, the sea surrounded Pompeii, which could also count on a commercial port. The ancient inhabitants of the city were particularly fond of fish-based dishes, a poor dish from a land overlooking the sea. A short distance from Pompeii, a few centuries later, the first experiments related to gin took place. In Salerno, at the ancient Medical School of Salerno, the origins of gin are in fact linked, born as a drink useful for transmitting the medical properties of juniper.

What to expect

The tasting takes place at the Capasanta restaurant, a special place that is linked to the sea in form and substance. The marine settings are recalled in the dishes and in the aesthetics of the place. Each maritime dish is paired with a gin, of Campania, national or international origin. Gin, like the products of the sea, has traveled the waves of the whole world, involuntarily born in Salerno and then perfected in the Netherlands. We discover its stories, with the possibility of tasting a gin born in the shadow of Vesuvius or enclosed in bottles in the shape of the Faraglioni of Capri. The scent of lemons from the Sorrento coast, together with the salt and sea water used in the production process, recall Campania and the Mediterranean in the gastronomic journey. The itinerary, between seafood-based courses and sweets that try to draw it, can include gins from Spanish, French or oriental-inspired productions. Among the various menus there is also a route that leads to the Philippines, with a gin whose name preserves the life of a Molise emigrated in search of fortune, curiously returned home with the essence of a bottle that has been around of the world.
