The Church of the Cross (Haçlı Kilise), one of the hidden treasures of the Red Valley. You’ll recognize it by the distinct cross carved into its ceiling — the feature that gives the church its name. Dating back to the 9th or 10th century, it was carved directly into the soft tuff rock and used as a place of worship and retreat. Its simple interior, combined with the natural light filtering through small openings, creates a peaceful and spiritual atmosphere amidst the valley’s striking red rocks.
The Church of Three Crosses, located near the end of the Red Valley hike. It takes its name from the three beautifully carved crosses on the ceiling — a symbol of the Holy Trinity. The church dates back to the 9th–10th centuries and was carved entirely out of soft volcanic rock. Though its decoration is simple, the geometric reliefs and crosses reflect the spiritual devotion of early Christian monks who once lived here. It’s a peaceful and inspiring stop to end the hike, surrounded by the silence and natural beauty of the valley.

The church stands on a high rock, offering a panoramic view of the village and the valley below. Although parts of it have collapsed over time, its high barrel vaults, wide nave, and traces of early frescoes still reveal its grand and monumental character — a true testimony to the early Christian faith in Cappadocia.
