Our meeting point is inside the front / main entrance of the supermarket - K‑Market Jounin Kauppa, Äkäslompolo
Between December and April, you'll witness Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park transformed into an ethereal Arctic realm, where polar light creates magic across snow-laden landscapes. Throughout the season, you'll venture along maintained winter roads to remote locations where you can expect to see frosted trees sparkling in Arctic sunlight or ethereal aurora borealis dancing through the sky.
From December through April, you'll witness Äkäslompolo transform into a winter wonderland, where snow-heavy branches create natural archways and the polar night bathes everything in mystical blue light. The village serves as your gateway to over 330 kilometers of immaculately maintained cross-country ski trails and countless winter walking paths, each leading to hidden corners of the surrounding wilderness. Here, modern life slows to match the gentle pace of Arctic seasons. You might spot a herd of reindeer grazing beside the frozen Lake Äkäslompolo, their breath creating delicate clouds in the crisp air, or hear the soft whoosh of cross-country skiers gliding past on freshly groomed trails. As darkness falls - which it does early and completely during the kaamos period - the village becomes a perfect stage for nature's most spectacular light show, as the aurora borealis often dances across the unpolluted Arctic sky.
