Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, our professional driver will be waiting to welcome you. After a short briefing, you will be transferred to your hotel in Moshi, where you can rest and refresh after your journey. In the evening, you will meet a representative from Tupae Adventures who will provide you with an overview of the adventure ahead. This is a great opportunity to ask questions and ensure you are well-prepared for the trek. You can also take a short stroll around Moshi to soak in the local culture, enjoy some Tanzanian cuisine, or simply relax in preparation for the exciting journey ahead.
After a hearty breakfast at your hotel in Moshi, we embark on a scenic drive to Lushoto, the heart of the Usambara Mountains. The journey takes approximately 6-7 hours, passing through vibrant landscapes, rolling hills, and small villages where you get a glimpse of rural Tanzanian life. Along the way, we may stop for refreshments and photo opportunities. Upon arrival in Lushoto, you will check in at Avocado Lodge, a cozy and comfortable lodge nestled within the beautiful green surroundings. Here, you will meet your local guide, who will brief you about the trek and the journey ahead. Take some time to relax, explore the nearby town, or enjoy the peaceful ambiance before an early night’s rest in preparation for the next day's hike.
After breakfast, we start our trek into the breathtaking landscapes of the Usambara Mountains. Today’s hike is approximately 12.3 kilometers and takes around four hours to complete. As we make our way through rolling hills, lush forests, and farmlands, you will be amazed by the diversity of flora and fauna surrounding you. We will pass through several villages, where you can interact with the friendly locals and learn about their traditional way of life. The trek offers numerous viewpoints, allowing you to take in stunning panoramic views of the mountains and valleys below. Our destination for the night is Muller’s Lodge, a charming retreat known for its serene setting and warm hospitality. Enjoy a delicious dinner, share stories of the day’s trek, and rest up for the journey ahead.
Today’s trek is the longest and most challenging of the journey, covering a distance of 18 kilometers with a walking time of approximately six hours. After an energizing breakfast, we set out on our adventure, passing through diverse terrains that range from thick forests to open farmlands. The hike is rewarding, with plenty of opportunities to spot unique bird species and enjoy breathtaking mountain views. Along the way, we will stop for a packed lunch, allowing you to rest and recharge while taking in the picturesque surroundings. As we reach Kwekanga, you will experience authentic Tanzanian hospitality by staying at a local homestay. Here, you will get a firsthand experience of rural life in the Usambara Mountains, interacting with local families, learning about their customs, and even trying some traditional Tanzanian dishes. This night will be a true cultural immersion and a highlight of the trek.
After breakfast, we continue our trek toward Rangwi, covering a distance of 13 kilometers. The journey takes us through remote villages, banana and coffee plantations, and lush forests, providing you with an intimate view of everyday life in this stunning region. The hike is relatively moderate, with a mix of ascents and descents, making for an enjoyable trekking experience. Upon reaching Rangwi, we will be welcomed by the peaceful and historic Rangwi Convent, where we will spend the night. This convent, run by local nuns, offers a tranquil atmosphere, allowing you to relax and reflect on the journey so far. In the evening, you can explore the convent grounds, engage with the residents, or simply enjoy the beautiful sunset over the mountains.
Our final day of trekking takes us from Rangwi to MamboViewPoint Lodge, a spectacularly situated eco-lodge overlooking the vast plains of Tanzania. The hike covers a distance of 12 kilometers and takes approximately four and a half hours. As we make our way to the finish line, you will be rewarded with some of the most breathtaking views of the entire trek. On clear days, you may even catch a glimpse of the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance. Upon arrival at MamboViewPoint Lodge, you can relax and soak in the stunning scenery. The lodge offers an incredible vantage point, making it the perfect place to unwind after days of trekking. Enjoy a well-deserved meal and reflect on the incredible journey you have just completed. If you wish to extend your stay, extra nights at MamboViewPoint Lodge can be arranged upon request.
