The King’s Palace Museum, also known as the Royal Palace or Nyanza Mwami Palace, is located in the Nyanza District of Rwanda’s Southern Province. This cultural site offers a glimpse into Rwanda’s monarchical past, featuring a reconstructed traditional royal palace made of thatched huts in the distinctive “beehive” style, illustrating how kings lived before the colonial era. Adjacent to this is the colonial-style palace built in the early 20th century for King Mutara III Rudahigwa, showcasing a blend of traditional Rwandan and European colonial architecture. Behind the palace is the Inyambo cattle enclosure, home to the long-horned royal cows that are descendants of the king’s original herd and remain a symbol of Rwandan heritage. After the museum visit, lunch will be enjoyed en route at Stafford Nyanza, followed by a coffee plantation tour in Huye, where visitors can learn about Rwanda’s renowned coffee culture from bean to cup.
After enjoying lunch at Stafford Nyanza, you'll head to Huye Mountain Coffee for an immersive coffee plantation tour. Here, you'll discover the fascinating journey of Rwanda’s world-class coffee — from bean to cup — as you explore the lush plantations and learn about the traditional and modern methods of coffee processing. Following the tour, you will be transferred back to Kigali. Your driver will drop you off either at your accommodation in Kigali or at Kigali International Airport, depending on your travel plans.
