1 hour 30 minutes (approximately)
Offered in: English

• Two guests per session — a private counter in practice. The sommelier pours for you alone, and the pace is yours

• Nine sake, nine pairings — every cup arrives with the dish chosen for it: A5 wagyu sirloin, chutoro tuna, king crab in butter, grilled scallop, salmon roe, oyster tempura

• Beside the Tsukiji Outer Market, where Tokyo's chefs buy their fish. The sommelier builds each day's nine around what the market has that morning, so you taste the best pairing available the day you come

• Led by a certified international sake sommelier in kimono, pouring at the counter with the bottles in front of you

• You leave knowing how to read a sake label and which of the four types is yours — the one thing you can use in any shop or restaurant in Japan

What to expect

Tasting Tasty — 90-Minute Sake Tasting with Tsukiji Delicacies, Tokyo

Nine cups of Japanese sake, each with something worth eating beside it: A5 wagyu sirloin, chutoro tuna, king crab in butter, grilled scallop, salmon roe, oyster tempura.

We are in Tsukiji, beside the outer market where Tokyo's chefs buy their fish. Every cup arrives with the dish chosen for it, and the sommelier builds each day's nine around what the market has that morning.

One recent line-up: Dassai Junmai Daiginjo 45 with scallop; Shirakawago Nigori with king crab; Daruma Masamune, 3 years aged, with A5 wagyu. Seven sake and two fruit liqueurs. Yours will differ.

A certified sake sommelier in kimono pours each one and explains how sake is brewed, how to read a label, and the four types. By the ninth cup, most guests know which type is theirs.

90 minutes. Up to 6 guests. 16:00 or 18:00. In English. Four minutes from Tsukiji Station.

Vegans, vegetarians and allergies: tell us when you book.
