This workshop takes place in Serra’s lived in home and working studio, hosted by the founder of Serracota who hand makes her ceramics independently. It is intentionally small and slow, with space to work at your own pace and ask questions as you go. Guests glaze real ceramic forms that will be kiln fired after the session, so you experience the full process, not just decoration. It is also easy to reach from Istanbul by train, with pickup from Arifiye station included, and the setting is surrounded by a calm lake side atmosphere.

What to expect

Spend a calm, hands on afternoon glazing ceramics in Serra Nurlu’s real home studio in Esentepe, Sakarya, near the lake landscape around Sapanca. After a warm welcome, Serra introduces her materials and her approach to handmade work, then you will choose a pre made ceramic form such as a cup, bowl, or plate. With gentle guidance, you will learn beginner friendly glazing techniques, experiment with color, layering, and texture, and take your time finishing a surface that feels like you. After the workshop, Serra professionally fires your pieces in her kiln, explaining how the firing reveals the final transformation. The group stays small, so the experience feels personal, quiet, and unrushed.
