Kurashiki Museum of Folk Craft is the second oldest folk art museum in Japan. Kichinosuke TONOMURA, the first President of this museum, collected more than 10,000 items. His collection includes the whole range of practical goods for everyday use.

    At the "Mukaimatsu Dorm" you will meet the lecturer and a Nationally-Licensed Guide of the tour. (Mukaimatsu Dorm : 2 Chome-5-1 Tsurugata, Kurashiki, Okayama 710-0056) After a self-introduction by Mr. Yamamoto, owner of "Toru Mingei" store, he will talk about folk crafts, focusing on the collection on display at the Kurashiki Museum of Folk Craft. The explanations are extremely valuable, as usually no written explanations are provided with the exhibits at the Kurashiki Museum of Folk Craft. By learning about the relationship between folk crafts in Japan and Kurashiki, what folk crafts are in the first place, and the history and attractive aspects of folk crafts, visitors will deepen their understanding of and attachment to folk crafts. From the meeting point, travel to the Kurashiki Museum of Folk craft. It is a 10-minute walk to the Museum through the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter.

    Kurashiki Museum of Folk Craft is the second folk crafts museum in Japan, where you can find more than 10,000 items of the past. While listening to lecturer Yamamoto's commentary, visitors will take a look of the museum. The tour will be led by Mr. Yamamoto, the owner of "Toru Mingei Shop," a long-established folk craft store for over 50 years, and will tour the Kurashiki Museum of Folk Craft while receiving explanations in English translation. Hear an explanation of the Kurashiki Museum of Folkcraft, which usually has few explanatory notes or explanations, from the perspective of the guide, Mr. Yamamoto. The exhibits at the Kurashiki Museum of Folk Craft do not have written explanations. Usually, this tour is left to the imagination of the participants, with explanations by the lecturer, and you can ask questions. This is a precious opportunity to learn more about folk crafts.
