Kanazawa is famously known as the city of arts, and while you can find art workshops throughout Japan that you can easily participate in, it is rare to find one like ours that offers you a chance to truly experience Kanazawa's traditional arts in the form of Yuzen, as well as an opportunity to sit down and have a conversation with the artisan who has dedicated their life to making it. Our translator will be there to ensure that the communication between you and the artist is as smooth as possible, and you will be able to bring home with you a memorable souvenir that you make yourself!

We are located in a small alley right to the left of the restaurant, barrier. Our studio is called "unveil", and there is a nameplate to the side of the entrance that will help you find us.

What to expect

In this workshop, you will be learning about and getting your hands on experiencing one of the famed local arts, Yuzen Dyeing, from an actual artist who is creating pieces using the technique. We aim to also provide you with an opportunity to enjoy a meaningful conversation with our guide and the artist during your participation!

Overall process of the workshop is as follows:
1. Before the workshop, choose your favorite design from a selection that you would like to dye
2. On the date, paint and dye the design you picked with various colors, while enjoying a chat and some tea with us!
3. After you are done with the dyeing part, the artist will then do the finishing touches for you. You can ask the artist to make it into a bow tie or place it in a frame to bring back with you!

For the last part, it will take some time for the artist to finish your work. So please let us know if you are comfortable with waiting around a bit for that or if you would rather us ship your finished work to you later.
For groups of five or more, the finishing steps will take too much time, so your finished items will be shipped to you later.
