Forget stuffy tours and whisky snobbery – this is Speyside done properly. Join me, Mitch Bechard – whisky expert, Keeper of the Quaich and storyteller – for a relaxed 3-hour whisky tour through Scotland’s most iconic whisky region.
We’ll follow the River Spey, visit four hand-picked distilleries, sip brilliant drams and share stories that bring Speyside’s spirit to life. Each safari is small and personal, tailored to your interests (subject to availability).
Expect carefully chosen whiskies enjoyed in beautiful settings, tales and local legends from over 20 years in the industry, and stunning scenery along the River Spey with time for photos and a few surprises.
This is more than a tasting – it’s an afternoon discovering why Speyside is the heart of Scotch whisky.
Note: This is a group experience with stops at iconic distillery locations, but does not include internal tours.
We will pick you up with 20 miles of Aberlour
First dram - Venture to our secret spot along the River Spey, where Mitch brings tales of Speyside's whisky smugglers and illegal distilling to life with your first dram of the day.
Dram Two - Wind your way to Cardhu Distillery, where you'll savour a carefully selected dram while soaking in panoramic views of the Speyside hills. Learn how this remarkable distillery was founded by Helen Cumming.
Dram Three – Next, we roll into the iconic Glenfiddich Distillery for our third dram of the day. As one of the most recognisable names in Scotch whisky, it’s a brilliant stop to soak in the sights, sip something special, and explore the distillery grounds and shop – perfect if you're hunting for a bottle to smuggle home. En route, we’ll pass the evocative ruins of Balvenie Castle, and if luck’s on our side, we’ll spot a few hairy Highland coos posing like locals who’ve done this before. It’s a classic Speyside moment – whisky, history, scenery, and shopping all wrapped into one dram-fuelled stop.
Balvenie Distillery – As we continue our whisky safari, we take a moment to admire the historic Balvenie Distillery from the outside – one of the last remaining distilleries in Scotland to do traditional floor maltings on-site. With its cobbled courtyards, working cooperage, and charming old-world character, Balvenie is steeped in Speyside heritage. We’ll chat about its close connection to Glenfiddich, its unique approach to cask maturation, and why it’s so beloved by whisky purists. It's a scenic and storied pause in the journey – the kind of place that makes you want to linger (or sneak a dram, if only they'd let us).
The Perfect Shot - Stop at the iconic Craigellachie Bridge for a dram in one of Speyside's most photographed locations. This Thomas Telford masterpiece has watched over whisky's journey through Speyside for centuries.
Final Stop – We return full circle to where the adventure began – the Speyside Whisky Shop in Aberlour. It’s the perfect place to end the day, with shelves lined with rare finds, local favourites, and a few bottles you may have tasted on the tour. Whether you’re picking up a souvenir, asking for a dram recommendation, or just savouring the last few moments of Speyside magic, it’s a fitting finale. We'll drop you off right outside with a head full of stories, a nose full of whisky, and (hopefully) a bottle or two in hand.
