Senate Square is home to historic landmarks like the Helsinki Cathedral, Government Palace, University, and merchants' homes, all designed in the 19th century to create a monumental center for the new capital city. Together, we’ll uncover its history, neoclassical architecture, and the fascinating stories behind it.
Market Square by the Southern Harbour is the perfect mix of local culture, fresh flavours, and coastal charm. Here, we stroll among stalls selling Finnish foods, handmade crafts, and souvenirs, while enjoying sea views and the lively atmosphere of this iconic harbor spot.
Esplanadi, or 'Espa,' is Helsinki’s most famous park and a vibrant gathering place. Visitors can enjoy a coffee, listen to live music near the historic Kappeli restaurant, and admire Finland’s first public monument—a statue of national poet Johan Ludvig Runeberg. In summer, the park blooms with colourful flowers and greenery. Beneath the park lies a massive heating and cooling plant, the Esplanade cooling centre, which reduces carbon emissions by over 20,000 tonnes a year and helps capture excess heat for energy production.
As we explore further, we’ll encounter iconic landmarks like the Ateneum Art Museum, the National Theatre, and the central Railway Station. This area beautifully blends Helsinki’s art history with stunning architecture, serving as the city’s vibrant cultural and transport hub.
Kansalaistori, or 'Citizens' Square,' is a vibrant modern space in Helsinki, surrounded by landmarks like the Parliament Building, the Kiasma Contemporary Art Museum, the Music Hall, and the newly renovated Finlandia Hall, designed by architect Alvar Aalto. Here, we’ll explore the area before concluding the tour at Oodi, the stunning central library, where you can enjoy a perfect blend of culture, design, and city life.
Here we feel the prize-winning grand architecture and see what it can mean having a local hub for us all.
