What to expect

Step into the artistic world of Balinese shadow puppetry at Usada Bali, a peaceful cultural space located in the heart of Ubud. This hands-on workshop invites you to explore one of four unique experiences guided by a local puppet artist.

Choose the carving workshop to shape your own puppet from raw wood using traditional tools, or dive into the full puppet-making experience where you’ll both carve and paint your puppet from start to finish. Prefer a more creative touch? The coloring workshop lets you decorate a pre-carved puppet with guidance rooted in Balinese mythology. For those interested in performance, the manipulation class teaches the techniques of movement, rhythm, and voice used by traditional puppet masters (dalang).

Your experience also includes a curated tasting menu featuring Refreshing Lemonana (lemonade with cardamom), Masala Dosa (crisp crepe with spiced potato, chutneys, and sambar), and a Bounty Ball (chocolate-coated coconut dessert with mint and honey).

Leave with your handcrafted puppet and a deeper appreciation for this timeless tradition.
