This accommodation option is inside the nature reserve, meaning you have unlimited access to the reserve during your stay and the whole place to yourself after hours.
It is a self-contained wooden lodge with one bedroom and two single beds, and a double pull out couch. It hosts a kitchette, washing machine and dryer, and private bathroom.

Meeting and pickup
Please report to the Nga Manu Nature Reserve Visitor Centre. Advise the counter staff that you are there to check-in. Check-in time is 1.30pm. Check out time is 11.00am the next day or on exit (if multiple days are booked).
What to expect
Your stay begins with an early check-in at 1.30pm at the one-of-a-kind accommodation, Theo's Cottage. You'll find a welcome hamper with premium local products such as gin, tonic, soft drinks, cheese and snacks. Perfect for enjoying on the veranda in the evening. At 2pm meet your first New Zealand native animal at the daily Tuna (eel) feed and talk.
At sunset and the reserve closes to the public, it becomes your private sanctuary. Evening begins with a talk by one of the volunteer guides, sharing insights on the North Island Brown Kiwi and involvement in the Kiwi Recovery Program. You will then be escorted to the kiwi house, a specially designed nocturnal habitat where you'll observe these rare birds foraging and exploring.
Enjoy a delightful continental breakfast with local produce, before a relaxed late checkout at 11am. But before you go, we have a special treat for you! Join us for an exclusive 40-minute native bird close encounter, where you’ll meet the cheeky Kākā, vibrant Kākāriki, playful Kea, and rare, playful Papango - an unforgettable way to wrap up your stay!
