Held every Sunday at General Osório Square, which occupies an entire city block, the fair began as a small gathering of hippies selling handmade crafts and has grown into one of Rio’s largest open-air markets. Forget worrying about your budget — it’s almost impossible not to buy more than you planned, and you’ll likely still have money left for a refreshing caipirinha. Known as the “Ipanema Little Fair,” it’s the perfect place to find great bargains: bikinis, handmade accessories, ceramic figurines, embroidery, lacework, gemstones, and much more. Most vendors are open to negotiation, and your guide will be right there to help you get the best deals. In addition to handicrafts, you’ll find stalls offering traditional Brazilian food.
