2Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia
The experience continues in the Reina Sofia Museum, dedicated to contemporary art and conceived as the natural counterpoint to the Prado. Here the visitor makes the leap into the 20th century, exploring how artists responded to a world marked by industrialization, avant-garde and war conflicts. The centrepiece of the visit is Pablo Picasso’s Guernica, one of the most influential works of universal art. Through his analysis issues such as the artist’s commitment, the symbolic language of the avant-garde and the impact of the Spanish Civil War on artistic creation are addressed.
