This sacred site, nestled amidst peaceful greenery, is one of the most important pilgrimage destinations for Catholics in Vietnam. The highlight is the grand Basilica and the striking statue of Our Lady of La Vang, which has become a spiritual symbol for millions of believers. Surrounding the site are beautiful sculptural works and serene gardens where visitors can enjoy both tranquility and cultural richness. 08:30 – 10:00: Ben Hai River Continuing the journey northward, you will pass through the 17th Parallel – Ben Hai River and Hien Luong Bridge, an iconic landmark of Vietnam’s turbulent history. Once dividing North and South Vietnam during the war, this quiet river and modest bridge today stand as powerful symbols of unity and peace. Walking across the bridge, visitors can sense the echoes of the past, where stories of separation and hope for reunification are deeply rooted. The area is also dotted with memorial sites and exhibits that illustrate the resilience of the Vietnamese people. Upon arrival in Phong Nha town, a delicious Vietnamese lunch will be served at a local restaurant, offering a chance to savor regional specialties while preparing for the cave adventure ahead.
13:00 – 16:00: Phong Nha Cave - Paradise cave exploration begins with a peaceful boat ride along the Son River, which winds through poetic rural scenery, flanked by karst cliffs and riverside villages. After about 25 minutes, the boat glides straight into the entrance of Phong Nha Cave, often called the “First Wonder of the Caves.” Inside, a surreal underground world opens up with magnificent stalactites and stalagmites, some shaped like mythical creatures, others like cascading waterfalls frozen in stone. The cave is also known for its immense chambers and passages, forming part of the world’s longest underground river system. The natural artistry carved by water and time creates an awe-inspiring spectacle, enhanced by the play of light and shadow. Exploring the cave, you will not only marvel at its grandeur but also gain insight into its geological significance and its place in local culture and legends.
16:00 – 19:30: Return Journey to Dong Hoi. After the cave exploration, you will re-board the boat and return to the pier, then relax on the drive back to Dong Hoi.
