Private Paper Drawing Art Workshop in Ueno

Tokyo, Japan

2 hours 30 minutes (approximately)
Offered in: Japanese and 1 more

You will learn two types of Washi art techniques:how to use Washi ink and how to make paper-cut art. Washi ink is created by dissolved colored paper. Using molds on a Washi paper canvas, you will design your painting with Washi ink.

Washi paper cutting involves cutting washi paper into desired shapes. By placing the cut washi on the raw material in the mold, you can color the washi to decorate it.

While your paper is drying, let’s relax with our original and only kind "Japanese paper tea" along with local Japanese sweets. The Japanese paper tea is brewed from kozo leaves, which are the raw material for making paper.

In this workshop, you will be taking your A5-sized piece of Washi art and one postcard. You can choose to take the postcard with you or send it to someone you care about. If you wish to send the card, we will guide you on how to mail your designed letter. To mail your postcard at a post office, an additional fee is required.

What to expect

Interested in art? Let’s make art with Washi! Washi refers to beautiful Japanese traditional paper made using traditional techniques. By learning the basic techniques of Washi ink and Washi paper cutting, you can create your own original Washi art works: one postcard and an A5-sized piece of Washi art.
Washi ink is our original design tool. We dissolve colored paper to make ink. Using the ink can make your art colorful.

By the way, when did you write a letter last? With the postcard you made, let's write a letter to someone you care about! (Stationery is also provided.)
While your paper is drying, let’s relax with our original and only kind "Japanese paper tea" along with local Japanese sweets. The Japanese paper tea is brewed from Kozo leaves, which are the raw material for making paper.
