2 hours (approximately)
Offered in: English

Curious about Iberian grape varieties? Want to know more about the contexts of winemaking in the Iberian Peninsula? Take part in this 2-hour tour and tasting lead by one of the winemakers of Adega Belém, an urban winery in the heart of Lisbon´s Belém neighborhood.

Explore how wine is made from grape to glass, which choices winemakers have and how these are reflected in the profile of the final wines. The tour is an exciting journey into the world of wine biochemistry made accessible through lively metaphors and explanations — for absolute novices and those who have done a lot of winery tours already.

To experience the essence of Mediterranean diet, everyone then sits together at our long table for a tasting of 5 wines paired with delicious artisan food stuff. Vegetarian food on demand. Every Friday and Saturday, 11h00-13h00.

This premium activity is only offered via Viatur and includes a complimentary postcard and pen. Please ask for this at checkin.

What to expect

The activity explores wine-making from grape to glass. It is lead by a winemaker using accessive language to explain the importance of the social life of yeasts, the tannin´s cravings for oxygen and the difference between a supermarket and a premium wine. We also explore how different wine types are made, including white, rosé, red, sparkling and fortified wines. The activity starts with a tour of the winery and is followed by a sit-down tasting on one long table, with five different wines being presented and co-explored. Without wanting to be overly patronizing, we suggest a very basic introduction to wine tasting techniques. The tasting is accompanied by artisan cheese and meat platters and fresh sour dough bread. It is recommended (though not obligatory) to use the spit buckets provided. For many of our guests, the tour generally opens new perspectives on the product "wine", how it is made and how winemakers interfere in its making; even for very seasoned wine lovers who have seen it all.
