With gentle and entertaining guidance, you’ll make your own bowl of matcha, discovering the techniques and etiquette that transform tea-making into a peaceful ritual. Enjoy your matcha with a traditional sweet and take time to savor the moment.

Our English-speaking tea masters welcome questions and conversation, helping you connect more deeply with Japanese culture. Using authentic, handcrafted utensils by skilled artisans, we share an experience rooted in tradition—one to remember and take home in spirit.

1 cup of matcha tea (Seasonal Japanese sweets as optional)
We do not have any parking lot. If you are arriving by rental bicycle, please use the public parking spaces.
Please arrive no earlier than 10 minutes before your scheduled time. As our space is limited, we kindly ask for your understanding that the venue is not suitable for eating.
Please note that kimono rental is not included in this experience.

If you are coming from Karasuma-dori Street, turn at the corner with the Family Mart convenience store. Then proceed straight for just one block. You will see the sign for 'aeru gojo' next to the 'Only Corporation' and across from 'Zen Kyoto'. We do not have a parking lot for cars and bicycles.

What to expect

You will be guided onto the tatami, a traditional space that has been part of Japanese daily life for centuries.
Become familiar with the world of the tea ceremony as our English-speaking host introduces its purpose and spirit in a clear, beginner-friendly way.
You will watch a traditional demonstration of matcha preparation, observing how each movement is performed with care and intention.
Afterward, you will prepare your own bowl of matcha and enjoy a quiet, meditative moment, allowing yourself to fully immerse in the essence of Japanese tradition. Throughout the ceremony, every utensil you use is a finely made, handcrafted piece created by skilled artisans, carrying the depth and beauty of Japanese culture.
