What to expect

Looking for something creative but also 'quintessentially Beppu'? In this fabric-dyeing workshop held in Japan’s most famous hot spring town, you'll use local 'onsen' (hot spring) water to dye fabric, creating a beautiful, one-of-a-kind pattern to take home with you. Through the unique process, you'll witness how one colour becomes transformed into various others via natural chemical reactions caused by the mineral content of Beppu's spring water.

Guided by a local instructor, fabric tea towels will be provided, however participants are welcome to bring their own fabric items to dye if they prefer to do so. This is an activity that's simple, relaxing, and suitable for both adults and children.
