Enjoy the stunning Roxburgh Gorge Trail (34km) on this self-guided journey by eBike. Connecting from Cromwell for a comprehensive bike fitting & tour brieding, it's then on to experience breathtaking landscapes along the mighty Clutha Mata-au River.
Highlights include dramatic views, rolling farmland, lush native bush & historic gold mining relics. Whizz along the Clutha Mata-au River by jet boat, a ride that connects an impassable area of the trail The impressive Roxburgh Dam can be viewed at the end of the trail at Roxburgh Hydro Village.
- 34km Grade 2-3 cycle trail (Easy-Intermediate)
- A reasonable level of fitness is required to enjoy this trail, and a confident riding ability; not suitable for children under 10
- Explore the quaint town of Clyde for morning tea before heading on to the trail

Meeting and pickup
Start your adventure at Kiwi Journeys Central Otago in the Freeway Orchard Complex, next to the Misha's Vineyard Cellar Door. Free parking is available. Arrive by 8:30 am for a briefing and bike fitting, then shuttle to Clyde at 9:15 am.

In Clyde, a quaint town borne of gold-mining heritage, enjoy a stroll around the galleries and stores, or coffee and morning tea from one of the local cafes before the adventure begins.

2Alexandra to Clyde River Track
Journey from Clyde to Alexandra on the River Trail (12km)- a stunning riverside pathway that follows the Clutha Mata-au River towards the true start of the Roxburgh Gorge Trail.

3Roxburgh Gorge Trail
One of New Zealand’s most visually spectacular and intriguing Great Rides, the trail follows the Clutha Mata-au River past eroded bluffs and old gold workings set amidst graceful willows and fragrant thyme.

Enjoy a scenic boat ride from Doctors Point to Shingle Creek, an exciting way to connect the northern and southern ends of the trail.
