    City Palace of Udaipur

Welcome to the biggest royal complex of Rajasthan and the most important tourist attraction of the town. The magnificent City Palace served as the royal residence of 22 generations of the Udaipur Royal Family for more than 400 years. The immense palace complex houses a very well managed and irresistible Museum, Heritage hotels, restaurants, a school and shopping arcades. The City Palace Museum galleries are filled with priceless regal memorabilia. They house one of the best maintained collection of paintings of India, the textile collection of the regal era, the royal palanquins with ivory work, glass inlay and mirror work, and the armoury gallery which speaks of the war-like lifestyle of the Maharajas. Not to be missed here is the Silver Gallery, one of the biggest royal collection of silver articles in the world!! The star amongst these is the silver buggy or horse-carriage from Bikaner, gifted to Udaipur family in 1940. Visiting the Palace Complex is like traveling back in time.

A short walk from the City Palace will take you to the Jagdish Temple, the most beautiful example of Hindu Iconography. With a steeple nearly 79 feet high, it is the largest and the most important temple of Udaipur. Built in 1651 at the cost of 1.5 million rupees ( or $22000) it is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the God of preservation in the Hindu belief. Jagdish temple is one of the best architectural wonders of Udaipur. The three-storied temple is built on raised platform flaunting magnificently carved pillars, huge airy halls and painted walls that are adorned with vibrant colors and intricately decorated ceilings. You'll be able to see people chanting and celebrating the prayers live and feel immersed in its unique spiritual ambience.

Jagmandir is an exquisite palace that looks like a floating marble structure in a lake and is a sight to behold as one visits the alluring Lake Pichola. It was constructed by three successive Maharajas of Udaipur in the 16th and 17th century and the royal family used the palace as their summer resort and pleasure palace for holding private royal gatherings. It is also the very place where the famous 1983 James Bond movie, Octopussy, was shot. The palace continues to witness few of the most luxurious destination weddings of the Indian Subcontinent. It has a beautiful flower garden, courtyards, fountains and water pools, and a well maintained restaurant. It is accessible only through a nice boat ride which stops at this island from where the travellers can get mesmerizing and incomparable views and photos of the City Palace Complex, the Lake Palace Hotel and the surrounding vintage buildings, rooftop restaurants and Heritage hotels and mansions.

Vintage Collection of Classic Cars Museum

Welcome to a unique venue complimented by magnificent vintage cars housed in an art deco building. The Collection is housed in the original former Udaipur State Motor Garage, a glorious setting for such a fine assortment of vehicles. The Collection was unveiled to general public on 15 February 2000 by Lord Montagu of Beaulieu, founder of the National Motor Museum in England. The grand old beauties are here in perfect running condition! Rolls Royce, Mercedes, Cadillac, MG: All lined up for you to marvel. Housed here are 22 splendid vehicles, including the beautiful 1934 Rolls-Royce Phantom used in the Bond film Octopussy, and the Cadillac convertible that whisked Queen Elizabeth II to the airport in 1961. All of it, still belonging to the Royal House of Udaipur, is probably the only one of its kind in India. An original Burma Shell petrol pump, still in working condition, adds another quaint touch of nostalgia and authenticity to the car collection.

    Sahelion Ki Bari

Literally translated to "the garden of the maidens", Saheliyon ki Bari is located in the northern part of the city and one of the few historical gardens of India which was specifically built for the royal ladies and their maidens so that they could get some cosy time away from the palace politics and bloody intrigues, a common thing in that era. Built in the 18th century by Maharana Sangram Singh II, it is one of the biggest and most beautiful historical gardens of India. Enclosed with triple defensive wall in order to give privacy to the royal womenfolk, it is full of especially designed and named fountains and kiosks, a lotus pool and white marble elephants. The place has attracted a lot of content creators and many Bollywood movies have been shot here. Amongst the other attractions here are the bird fountains, flowerbeds, rain fountains, and the shady bougainvillea lawns. It is not only a treat for your eyes and your camera lens but also a relaxed way to end your day.
