Watch a real Maiko, an apprentice Geisha, perform up close. With only about 40 Maikos left in Kyoto, seeing one is a rare and special experience. Kyoto is the only place where you can experience the authentic world of Geisha—don’t miss this chance!
To begin the show, the Maiko will perform a traditional dance lasting around 10 minutes, the usual length of most Maiko performances. After 2 dances (each about 5 minutes), there will be time for a Q&A, photo-taking, and a chance to play a traditional Japanese game with her.
*IMPORTANT*: In Geisha/Maiko culture, performances are intentionally short to preserve the art’s exclusivity and grace. Please note that the Maiko will not be performing continuously for one hour.

2. Socks are required
3. Do not leave during the show
4. Set your phone to Do Not Disturb

What's Included
Meeting and pickup
Our guide will wait in front of the KOHYO. From Kyoto Station, it’s about 20 minutes by taxi. If using public transport, we recommend taking the bus. We will walk to the venue and is around 5 minutes away from this location.
We will end at the main entrance of the Kitano Tenmangu Shrine. The 30 minute walking tour of the shrine is optional, guests may choose whether or not they want to leave after the 1 hour show.

We will watch a one-hour geisha performance, where she will showcase her artistry and traditional dances. You'll have the opportunity to ask her questions and take photos together. Depending on the day, the activities with the geisha may vary.

Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, located in northern Kyoto, is a beautiful Shinto shrine dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane, the deity of scholarship. It’s also known for its stunning architecture, vibrant festivals, and rich cultural history, making it a must-visit spot for those interested in Japan’s traditions and spiritual heritage. Visit this shrine with a maiko, and take pictures with the maiko at a shrine!
