We leave Nice by taking the famous road "La Grande Corniche", which is located at more than 500 meters high. It is the oldest road, built under the orders of Napoleon I, which follows the ancient Roman road "Via Augusta", some sections are original and date back to Antiquity. Perched on the cliff side, it is the most: famous, mythical, sporty, wild, and spectacular of the 3 Corniches, which connect France to Italy. We make several panoramic photo stops to memorialize these magnificent landscapes. (don't forget to bring your cameras)!
Our first major activity of the day will be the city of San Remo. Discover "the city of flowers" as the Italians call it, because of the magnificent flower plantations that surround the city on all sides. San Remo is also known for organizing the famous "Italian song festival". This city was the preferred seaside resort of European aristocracies at the beginning of the 19th century; in 1864, Tsarina Maria Aleksandrovna chose for the first time to spend the winter in San Remo, which opened the way to elite tourism of Russian nobles, attracted by the mild climate and the beauty of the place. Also the Austrian Empress Elisabeth of Wittelsbach (Sissi), stopped several times in San Remo. San Remo will experience the construction of magnificent architectural masterpieces by this rich elite aristocracy who settled semi-permanently in the city. I will not fail to show you some cheerful buildings from this beautiful era! You will have enough time to visit the city and taste Italian food.
This small village has managed to keep its medieval spirit and soul with brilliance. It seems to have remained in its original state since the Middle Ages. Start your visit to Dolce Aqua by crossing this pretty 13th century Roman bridge that spans the torrent. It connects the two parts of the village. Claude Monet - famous French impressionist painter - enchanted by its beauty, immortalized it in 4 paintings. Discover dark, steep and complicated alleys. Some streets are so narrow, the houses so high that the sun struggles to penetrate inside. Some passages, completely covered, never even see the light of day! The whole forms a pretty paved labyrinth that joyfully transports us into the past. A little marvel! With this circuit a total change of scenery is guaranteed. You will not forget it soon...
