In the morning, begin your journey with a scenic 2.5-hour drive from Kigali to Musanze, the gateway to Volcanoes National Park. Upon arrival, you’ll check in at your accommodations and take some time to relax and enjoy the serene surroundings of your lodge. For lunch, you can enjoy a meal at your lodge or a local restaurant, such as La Paillotte in Musanze. In the afternoon, you can choose to partake in an optional activity. You may visit the twin lakes, Burera and Ruhondo, where you can take a guided walk or a boat ride to explore these stunning volcanic basins. Alternatively, immerse yourself in Rwandan traditions at Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village, where local communities share their heritage through music, dance, and storytelling. In the evening, you'll enjoy dinner at your lodge and take some time to relax as you prepare for the next day's adventure.
Start your day with an early breakfast at your lodge before heading to the park headquarters by 7:00 am for a briefing by park rangers. During this session, you’ll learn about trekking protocols and be assigned to a specific gorilla family. You’ll then embark on an unforgettable gorilla trekking adventure through the dense rainforest. The trek may take anywhere from two-to-six hours, depending on the location of the gorilla family. Once you find them, you’ll spend a magical hour observing their behavior in the wild. For lunch, you will enjoy a packed meal provided by your lodge or the trekking team. In the afternoon, you will take a scenic 2.5-hour drive back to Kigali after freshening up at your lodge. If time allows, you may opt for an additional stop at a local market or visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial. In the evening, those departing will be transferred to Kigali International Airport for their onward flight.
