The steel drum workshop is unique, interesting, and fun - and the experience should be a great vacation memory. Perfect for couples, small groups and families. The sound of the steel drum creates an atmosphere of the islands, and elicits feelings of care-free happiness. The steel drum workshop will create memories that will stay with you and your loved ones long after you've left the shores of paradise.

We will meet under the large palm tree in the cobblestone courtyard at 'Am I Coconuts' on Anna Maria Island. The easiest parking can be found across the street at Roser Church. Private hotel beach and pool performances are available upon request after booking.

What to expect

The workshop will begin with a brief history of the instrument's cultural significance and the impact that the steel drum has had on arts and music. You will then be given a pair of drumsticks to use (which you will use to mimic me) as you learn to play the C Major scale. Once that is perfected, you will learn to play the song "Day-O". (I will also show you steel drum apps that can be downloaded for free which you can use to practice your new skills and continue to make beautiful, tropical steel drum music even when your vacation is over). During the second hour of the workshop, I'll play the steel drum and you can sit back and relax with a tambourine as we jam together on favorites by Bob Marley, Jimmy Buffet, and some highly curated Yacht Rock!
