What makes this experience unique is the way we combine Soweto’s history with its everyday social culture. You’re not simply cycling between tourist attractions, you’re riding through local neighbourhoods, meeting people, visiting community pubs, tasting traditional food and experiencing the places where locals spend their time.

Our guides are from Soweto and bring their own knowledge, stories and personal connections to the places we visit. From the history of the 1976 Soweto Uprising to sharing a traditional beer at a local pub, the experience gives you different sides of Soweto in one journey.

You’ll leave having seen the famous landmarks, but also having experienced the food, streets, conversations, flavours and everyday life that make Soweto what it is.

What to expect

Explore Soweto on bicycles as we cycle through some of its most historic sites. Along the way, we’ll visit important heritage sites including the Hector Pieterson Museum and Nelson Mandela House, while also experiencing a side of Soweto that you won’t find in a typical sightseeing tour.

We’ll make stops at local pubs and community spots to taste drinks that are part of Soweto’s social culture, beginning with traditional beer before trying one of the most popular beers enjoyed in Soweto.

Food is also part of the experience. We’ll stop to taste traditional local food, followed by lunch at a local spot where you can enjoy a taste of everyday Soweto.

This is a bicycle tour that brings together history, local food, beer, culture and community giving you the opportunity to experience Soweto not just as a visitor, but through the places, flavours and stories that make the township unique.
