Experience Ålesund with All Your Senses.
This isn't just a history walk; it's a two-hour immersion into the sights, scents, and flavors that has defined Ålesund throughout the ages.
We invite you to join us on a two-hour walking tour at a comfortable pace through the Art Nouveau streets, where you will see and taste bits of Ålesund. Our local guides will share stories about the city and the people who lived there.
We will meet you with a sign just outside the cruise ship terminal. Look for our smiling guide.
At a speciality shop for a small food tasting.
We start at Storneskaia (the cruise ship pier) and walk from there across the Hellebroa bridge to Aspøya—perhaps Norway's most densely populated island. Here, you will hear the story of the city fire, the Art Nouveau style, and some of the city's merchants. And maybe you will be introduced to some scents that were very common in Ålesund a century ago.
We stop outside the beautiful Ålesund church. The church was built between 1906-1909 and is decorated with Norwegian white, red and black marble.
We continue to the characteristic elementary school, Aspøy, which dates back to 1921 and is still in use.
Behind Aspøy school we walk down Brunholmgata. From here, we enjoy the view north across the fjord to the islands where some of Norway's most powerful clans lived during the Viking Age. And in 1853 this was one of the sites in Norway where the first medical Cod Liver Oil was developed.
We will stop at the town square by Brosundet/Ålesundet - with a splendid view at Brosundet/Ålesundet - the sound between Aspøya and Nørvøya. Here is the perfect spot for photos of Ålesundet.
Joachim Rønneberg was in charge of maybe the most important field operation in Norway during the Second World War.
At Skateflukaia you will hear the story of the North Sea travel to the Shetland Islands during the Second World War.
In Kongens gate you can view the beautiful Art Nouveau buildings in this pedastrian street. Here you will find the narrowest house in Ålesund - and maybe even in Europe?
We will end our tour at this shop where you will get two small tastings of Norwegian specialities.
