Peter and Paul, two apostles of Christ, brought the message of Jesus to Rome, thereby making Rome the epicenter of the Christian faith. The writings and teachings of the apostles left an indelible mark on Roman history, inspiring Pontiffs and Emperors alike to build the finest churches in the Christian world. On this tour, our expert theologian will guide you through 3 of the Pilgrim Churches of Rome.
Directly in front of the church, your guide will be holding a yellow sign with "Europe Odyssey" printed on it.
Afterwards you will get to see St. John Lateran, the Cathedral of Rome which has the seat of the bishop of Rome and was the original residence of the popes up until the 14th century.
The Holy Stairs, also known as the Santa Scala, are a set of 28 marble steps in Rome, believed to be the stairs that Jesus Christ ascended during his trial before Pontius Pilate. According to tradition, the steps were brought from Jerusalem to Rome by Saint Helena in the 4th century. Pilgrims for centuries have revered these stairs, climbing them on their knees as a devotion, reflecting on Jesus' passion and suffering.
Finally, at St. Paul’s outside the Walls you will see where St. Paul is laid to rest. It is a truly holy and reverent experience for any pilgrim, and one of our top theologians will accompany you on this tour.
The Basilica of Mary Major, also known as Our Lady of Snows, is home to the crib of the baby Jesus. It is also the largest Church to Mary in Rome, and sits on top of the hill where it miraculously snowed in the peak of Summer.
