[SDGs workshop] Satsuma Kiriko Pendant Experience - from waste glass materials

1 hour 30 minutes (approximately)
Offered in: Japanese

Satsuma Kiriko is one of Japan’s most celebrated traditional glass crafts, known for its deep, vivid colors and delicate hand-cut patterns.

While usually crafted into luxury glassware, this hands-on workshop offers a sustainable twist. You will breathe new life into waste glass fragments—materials left over from standard production—and recreate them into your own one-of-a-kind pendant.

Under the guidance of professional artisans, you will use a specialized diamond wheel to carefully cut geometric facets into the colored glass. As you grind away the outer layer, the clear glass underneath emerges, creating the beautiful color gradation (bokashi) that defines Satsuma Kiriko. This DIY workshop is not only a creative experience but also a meaningful SDGs activity that supports sustainable craftsmanship.
