Create your own traditional Japanese umbrella (wagasa) in a hands-on workshop led by skilled artisans in Kanazawa's historic Higashi Chaya District.
Choose your favorite washi paper and experience the traditional techniques used to craft this iconic Japanese art. An English-speaking guide will be available to assist throughout the workshop, making it easy and enjoyable for everyone.
Depending on the experience you choose, you'll either take home your completed mini wagasa on the same day or have your full-size wagasa professionally finished and shipped to your designated address, creating a one-of-a-kind keepsake from your visit to Japan.

The guide will take you from your hotel by public bus or on foot.

What to expect
Discover the beauty of wagasa, traditional Japanese umbrellas handcrafted from natural materials such as bamboo, washi paper, and wood. Guided by skilled artisans at Kasamori Wagasa Umbrella Shop, you'll create your own unique piece while learning about this centuries-old craft.
Mini Wagasa Making (90 mins)
Craft a 30 cm miniature wagasa using traditional techniques. Choose your favorite washi paper design, carefully attach it to the umbrella frame, and complete your own handcrafted umbrella. Once finished, you can take your mini wagasa home the same day as a unique souvenir of your visit to Japan.
Premium Wagasa Making (120 mins)
Experience the craftsmanship behind a full-size traditional wagasa by following the same process used by skilled artisans. Select your favorite washi paper and apply it to the umbrella frame under expert guidance. After the workshop, the artisans will complete the drying, lacquering, and final finishing process over the next 1–2 months.
