What to expect

This two-day activity immerses you in the revived tradition of Hamayaki, a cherished seafood BBQ experience in Matsukawaura, brought back to life after the 2011 tsunami. The main BBQ activity takes place on the first day in the picturesque Matsukawaura area, where you'll be staying at a traditional ryokan.

Your adventure begins with a hands-on process of preparing a charcoal fire, guided by the skilled "young masters" of the Matsukawaura Guide Association. These locals, dedicated to revitalizing their community, will teach you the traditional art of skewering and grilling fresh seafood, including flounder, squid, and other local specialties. As you grill your meal, you'll hear inspiring stories about the resilience and recovery of Matsukawaura following the tsunami.

The Hamayaki you prepare will not only be a delicious meal but also a meaningful connection to the area's rich history and the enduring spirit of its people. This activity offers a unique opportunity to engage with local culture, learn traditional cooking techniques, and support the ongoing recovery of a community deeply impacted by disaster.
