Owara Kaze no Bon Festival: A Timeless Dance Festival Welcoming Autumn in Toyama Held every year from September 1st to 3rd, the Owara Kaze no Bon Festival marks the arrival of autumn in Yatsuo, Toyama City. Men and women in traditional attire, wearing woven hats that shade their faces, gracefully dance through the historic streets to the haunting melodies of kokyū, shamisen, and Etchū Owara folk songs. With a history spanning over 300 years since the Edo period, this elegant dance tradition is preserved by 11 local neighborhoods known collectively as “Kyūchō” (Old Town). Each district showcases its own unique dance style, yukata designs, and lyrics during evening processions starting around 5:00 PM. As dancers move through the town’s charming sloped streets, the festival creates a captivating atmosphere filled with beauty, emotion, and the refined spirit of traditional Japanese culture.
