Combine cycling and hiking on this unique outdoor adventure to visit Rio’s most famous landmark. Ride through Tijuca Forest on the scenic Estrada Redentor, then hike the final 1 km trail from the Paineiras Visitor Centre to reach the summit of Corcovado. At the top, marvel at the Christ the Redeemer statue and panoramic views of Rio de Janeiro before taking the historic train ride down through the forest.

You start with a fairly easy mountain bike ride along a car-free forest road, surrounded by lush greenery and wildlife. Pause at scenic lookouts and waterfalls for photos before arriving at Paineiras. From there, continue on foot along the designated trail to the summit. Your reward: the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue and sweeping views of Rio’s coastline, mountains, and neighborhoods.

The experience ends with a descent through the forest on the historic Corcovado Tram-Rio de Janeiro's first ever tourist attraction, dating back to imperial times.

We meet at the cafe outside the visitor's centre. You can catch an Uber or Taxi and then it's a short walk uphill to the cafe from the dropoff point.

End point

From the train station in Cosme Velho you can easily catch a taxi, Uber or bus. There are also restaurants and a cafe nearby.

    Centro De Visitantes Paineiras

    This Visitor's Centre was once a hotel and now tells the story of Christ the Redeemer, the wildlife in the forest and the history of the region.

    You cycle on the Redentor road, a peaceful car-free section of road through the forest. Here we have the possibility of seeing forest animals and birds, as well as spectacular views of Rio de Janeiro.

    Floresta da Tijuca

    After the bike ride you take the walking trail, again starting at the Paineiras Visitor's Centre. This 1km trail passes through the forest before joining a section of the railway with spectacular views of the city, forest and ocean.

    Here you enter into the area at the top of the Corcovado peak where the statue, one of the seven modern wonders of the world, is located.

    Trem do Corcovado

    This is Brazil's first tourist attraction, build decades before the Christ the Redeemer Statue. It was originally steam powered, and an incredible engineering feat when it was build in the 1880s. The trip down through the forest is a fiiting way to return home after your experience.
