The concert will open with a refined work by Leopold Koželuch, the Concerto for Piano Four Hands, performed by Barbara Cattabiani and Claudia Agostini. A leading figure of Viennese Classicism, Koželuch was admired for his clear, graceful style and lively piano writing. In this rare performance, the dialogue between the two pianists will offer a moment of balance and lightness, introducing the monumental Requiem by Mozart. Mozart’s Requiem in D minor, K.626, his last unfinished work, remains shrouded in mystery and fascination. He completed only the Introitus and outlined parts of the Kyrie, Sequentia—with the Lacrimosa breaking off after eight bars—and the Offertorium. After his death, his wife Constanze entrusted the completion to his pupils, but only Franz Xaver Süssmayr finished it, organizing and completing the missing sections. From the first notes, a sense of anguish and the presence of death itself seem to permeate the entire work.
