Joya de Cerén is the only site in El Salvador recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a distinction that makes it an exceptional place within the Mesoamerican region. This archaeological site was a Mayan village located in the valley of Zapotitán. In the 7th century AD, the eruption of the Loma Caldera volcano covered the site with volcanic ash, which allowed the extraordinary conservation of its homes and everyday objects. Thanks to this, today it is possible to know what the daily life of the ancient Maya was like.

    Parque Arqueológico Tazumal

Chalchuapa was an important center where diverse cultural influences converged, including Copán, Teotihuacán and the Toltec tradition. The site of Tazumal is part of this complex and is composed of several structures that reflect the development of a relevant Mayan settlement between 100 and 1200 AD, reaching its greatest splendor during the Classic period, before being permanently abandoned.
