Non-Aesthetic Walking Tour – Discover the Real La Paz
Beyond the well-known Political & Historical Walking Tour and the artistic “Smells Like La Paz Spirit” experience, we present something truly different: a unique journey into the authentic, unfiltered side of La Paz.
This walking tour takes you off the beaten path into lesser-known neighborhoods and hidden corners of the city—always with deep respect for the privacy and dignity of locals. Along the way, you’ll gain insight into real social dynamics, challenges, aspirations, urban legends, even fun facts, and everyday life, not only in La Paz but across Latin America.
Designed for curious and open-minded travelers, this experience blends adrenaline, cultural understanding, and raw authenticity. It’s not traditional sightseeing—it’s about seeing beyond the surface and engaging with the city in a meaningful way.
If you’re seeking a unique and eye-opening perspective, this tour is for you.
Time: 10:00 AM (for safety reasons)
We meet you at the center of the Main Square, where we learn about the infamous "Prison of San Pedro".
We finish our tour at this beautiful church and square.
This is our meeting point (we meet in the square), where we learn more about the infamous San Pedro prison. Afterwards, we visit the neighborhood of San Pedro, and we visit "the Averno", an old illegal bar called "Cementerio de Elefantes", an infamous illegal place where homeless people used to spend their last days alive. Here, we learn more about urban legends from La Paz.
We take the cable car to visit El Alto, and during the ride we enjoy the city's beautiful view.
Once we take the purple and silver lines of the Cable Car, we visit "La Ceja," considered the most dangerous area of both cities, El Alto and La Paz. Here we learn more about "Justicia comunitaria," which basically involves locals making justice in their own hands, due to the lack of presence of authorities. We also learn a "fun fact" about the presidential medal and nightclubs in this area. During the time of your visit, this place is safe, and your guide will look after you.
Then again, when we return to La Paz, we enjoy the amazing murals, street art, and dramatic landscapes of this eclectic city. We walk around the neighborhood of Cementerio General, where we visit the streets, and we learn about the "informal economy." Also, we see from an appropriate distance the "Barrio Chino" that has no relationship with China. This street is considered one of the most dangerous areas of La Paz. Also, during the tour, your guide will be there to look after you.
Finally, we finish our tour in this iconic square, your guide will assist you in returning to your accommodation or recommend a nice place for food.
