What to expect

Begin with a hotel pickup in Moshi after breakfast and a meet-and-greet with your local Chagga guide. A scenic drive along Uru Road - past markets, street traders, and everyday Tanzanian life - brings you to Materuni Village, 15 km from Moshi and one of the last authentic highland settlements before Kilimanjaro National Park.

Take a guided hike through lush tropical rainforest, winding past coffee and banana farms to the foot of Materuni Waterfalls, one of the tallest cascades on Kilimanjaro's slopes, plunging 80 - 90 m into a crystal-clear natural pool. Weather permitting, take a refreshing swim before heading back through the village.

In the afternoon, enjoy a fully hands-on farm-to-cup coffee experience: harvest ripe cherries, peel, soak, sun-dry, roast, and grind the beans yourself - accompanied by traditional Chagga songs. Then sit down to taste the very cup you made.

Afterward, enjoy a buffet-style Chagga lunch, prepared fresh by village mammas in clay pots using organic, locally grown ingredients. Browse handmade souvenirs from village artisans and, if you wish, raise a final glass of local banana beer, wine, or vodka before your guide returns you to Moshi.
