Ferries arrive filled with curious visitors eager to explore the Museo del Vetro, which chronicles the history of glass over the centuries, and to purchase local handcrafted souvenirs. Built in the Romanesque style, the Church of Santa Maria and San Donato features a colorful mosaic floor and is said to house the bones of a slain dragon.

Burano is situated in the Venetian Lagoon, and like its neighbor seven kilometers to the south, Venice, it is actually a community made up of several small islands connected by bridges. Located near Torcello at the northern end of the lagoon, Burano is renowned for its glass and lacework.
