Some places can only be understood in the dark. As night falls over Tapir Valley, frogs begin to sing and a Baird's tapir, Central America's largest land mammal, steps out to feed.
Once a cattle ranch, Tapir Valley was restored by local conservationists into a thriving reserve bordering Tenorio Volcano National Park. It's one of the best places in Costa Rica to see endangered tapirs in the wild, and home to the Tapir Valley tree frog, a species found nowhere else on Earth. With 440 + bird species, 50 + frog species and a 5.0 Travelers' Choice rating on Tripadvisor, it's a dream for nature lovers.
We pick you up at your hotel in Playas del Coco, Ocotal, Hermosa, Playa Panamá or Peninsula Papagayo. After a local dinner, your certified guide leads a small group (max 12) by flashlight to find red-eyed tree frogs, sleeping birds, snakes and more. Boots, flashlights, water and entrance fees included.
