The traveler will be picked up from their accommodation approximately two hours prior to the start of the tour.
After breakfast, depart from Arusha or Moshi to Machame Gate for registration and park formalities. Begin the trek through dense rainforest, rich in flora and wildlife. The trail can be muddy and humid, but the gradual ascent makes this an enjoyable introduction to the climb. Arrive at Machame Camp in the late afternoon for dinner and overnight.
Altitude: 3,000 m (9,843 ft) to 3,840 m (12,598 ft) Hiking Distance: ~5 km Hiking Time: 4–6 hours Habitat: Moorland Leave the rainforest behind and ascend into the moorland zone. The trail becomes steeper as you cross rocky ridges with expansive views of Mount Meru and the Shira Plateau. Arrival at Shira Camp is usually early afternoon, allowing time to rest and acclimatize.
Altitude: 3,840 m (12,598 ft) to 4,630 m (15,190 ft) down to 3,960 m (12,992 ft) Hiking Distance: ~10 km Hiking Time: 6–8 hours Habitat: Semi-desert This is a critical acclimatization day. Trek gradually up to Lava Tower (4,630 m), where lunch is served. Afterward, descend to Barranco Camp, allowing your body to adapt to the altitude. The camp offers stunning views of the Barranco Wall and Kibo Peak.
Altitude: 3,960 m (12,992 ft) to 4,035 m (13,238 ft) Hiking Distance: ~5 km Hiking Time: 4–5 hours Habitat: Alpine Desert Begin the day by climbing the famous Barranco Wall, a non-technical scramble that is both exciting and rewarding. After reaching the top, traverse ridges and valleys before descending slightly to Karanga Camp. This short day supports continued acclimatization.
Altitude: 4,035 m (13,238 ft) to 4,673 m (15,331 ft) Hiking Distance: ~4 km Hiking Time: 3–4 hours Habitat: Alpine Desert A steady climb leads to Barafu Camp, the final base before the summit attempt. After an early dinner, rest and prepare for the midnight ascent. Your guides will provide a detailed summit briefing and health check.
Altitude: 4,673 m (15,331 ft) to 5,895 m (19,341 ft) down to 3,100 m (10,171 ft) Hiking Distance: ~17 km Hiking Time: 12–15 hours Habitat: Arctic to Rainforest Depart around midnight for the summit push. Ascend via Stella Point (5,756 m) before reaching Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating and photos, descend back to Barafu Camp for a short rest, then continue down to Mweka Camp.
Altitude: 3,100 m (10,171 ft) to 1,640 m (5,380 ft) Hiking Distance: ~10 km Hiking Time: 3–4 hours Habitat: Rainforest Descend through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you sign out and receive your Kilimanjaro summit certificates. Transfer back to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi for a well-deserved rest.
