1Parque del Retiro
We'll walk through Retiro Park. It is the main historical garden of Madrid, created in the 17th century as a recreational space of the Austrian monarchy. It eventually became public use and today combines formal gardens, wooded areas and ponds. Highlights include the Big Pond, the Crystal Palace and the Velazquez Palace. Since 2021 it has been part of the Landscape of Light, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

2Las Ventas Bullring
We also see the bullring of Las Ventas. It is the main bullfighting thing in Madrid and one of the most important in the world. It was opened in 1931 and is built in neo-Mudéjar style, with rich ceramic decoration. It has a capacity of more than 23,000 spectators, being the largest in Spain. It is considered the most demanding square for bullfighters and ranchers.

3Templo de Debod
The temple of Debod is an Egyptian shrine from the 2nd century BC, dedicated to the gods Ammon and Isis. It was a gift from Egypt to Spain in 1968 for help in saving the temples of Nubia. It was moved stone by stone and rebuilt next to the Spanish Steps. It is one of the few original Egyptian temples that can be seen outside Egypt.

4Royal Palace of Madrid
The Royal Palace of Madrid is the official residence of the King of Spain, although today it is used only for acts of state. It was built in the 18th century on the former Alcazar of the Austrias, destroyed by fire. It is the largest royal palace in Western Europe, with more than 3,000 rooms. Its main staircase, royal armoury and artistic collections stand out.

5Catedral de Sta Maria la Real de la Almudena
Almudena Cathedral is the episcopal see of Madrid and is dedicated to the patron saint of the city. Its construction lasted from the end of the 19th century to 1993, which explains its mix of styles. The exterior is neoclassical, to harmonize with the Royal Palace, and the interior neogothic. It was consecrated by Pope John Paul II.

6Plaza Mayor
Madrid’s Plaza Mayor is one of the city’s great historic spaces, configured in the 17th century during the reign of Philip III. It has been the scene of markets, popular festivals, cars of faith and real celebrations. It is surrounded by porticoed buildings and presided over by the equestrian statue of Philip III. Today it is an emblematic meeting place and tourist activity.

7Puerta del Sol
Puerta del Sol is one of the most central and symbolic squares in Madrid. Here is the zero kilometer of the radial roads of Spain. Highlights include the Casa de Correos, with the famous clock of the chimes of New Year's Eve, and the Bear and the Madroño. It has traditionally been a key space for the political and social life of the city.

8Mercado San Miguel
San Miguel Market is a historic market located next to Plaza Mayor. It was opened in 1916 and is one of the few examples of iron architecture to be preserved in Madrid. After its rehabilitation it has become a gastronomic space of high influx. Today it stands out for its offer of tapas and gourmet products.

9Plaza De Espana
Plaza de España is a large urban space located between Gran Via and Calle Princesa. It was built in the 20th century and remodeled comprehensively in 2021, prioritizing pedestrians. It is presided over by the monument to Miguel de Cervantes, with Don Quixote and Sancho Panza. It visually connects the historic center with the Royal Palace and the Casa de Campo.

10Plaza Colon
The Plaza de Colón is an important urban space located on the axis of the Paseo de la Castellana. It is dedicated to Christopher Columbus and houses a monument with his statue on a tall neo-Gothic column. Here are the Gardens of Discovery and the Fernán Gómez Cultural Center. It is a regular venue for cultural events, rallies and public events.

11Santiago Bernabeu Stadium
Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, home of Real Madrid since 1947, was inaugurated as Nuevo Chamartín and renamed in honor of its legendary president in 1955. After multiple renovations, the most ambitious completed in 2024 included a retractable roof, movable field and modern facade.
