On a guided tour of the old town of Saalfeld, you will discover the "Steinerne Chronik Thuringia" and can learn many interesting facts about the history of the city and the very well-preserved historical buildings.
Did you know that Saalfeld is one of the oldest cities in Thuringia? On a 90-minute guided tour through the historic city centre, you will get to know the beautiful Saale city. Centuries-old cobblestones go through living city history. The large number of well-preserved buildings from different eras gave it the nickname “Steinerne Chronik Thüringens”. The historic centre of the city is characterised by the imposing Renaissance town hall with its ornate facade, old patrician houses with elaborate gables, archways and bay windows. The tour also takes you to St. John's Church with its unique ceiling painting and the former Franciscan monastery, today's city museum. The tour of the old town takes place from April to October every Saturday at 11 am. Participation is free for holders of the Saalfeld Guest Card.
