Our initial stop will be the Roberto Huembes Market, where we will explore the cultural traditions of local vendors as they showcase their products. This visit includes a guided tour of the crafts section, allowing travelers to immerse themselves in the region’s cultural artistry and gain a deeper appreciation for its heritage.
We will explore the New Cathedral, located in the heart of Managua, and delve into its historical significance, including why it bears the name "New Cathedral", its founding, and the stories embedded in its architecture. This visit will highlight the cathedral’s cultural and religious legacy, offering insights into its role in Nicaragua’s history.
We will venture into Old Managua, where our first stop will be Tiscapa Hill. Here, we will delve into the site’s revolutionary history, including its underground prisons, and learn about its role in Nicaragua’s past. Visitors will also enjoy the stunning panoramic views of Tiscapa Lagoon and hear captivating legends passed down through generations by local elders. This immersive experience will uncover the hill’s hidden stories and highlight its cultural, historical, and natural significance.
Delving deeper into the heart of Old Managua, our next destination will be the Old Cathedral of Managua (Catedral de Santiago), where we will explore the awe-inspiring structure that survived the devastating earthquake that destroyed much of the city. This site, now one of the most iconic tourist areas in Managua, offers a poignant glimpse into the city’s past. Visitors will learn about the cathedral’s historical significance as a symbol of resilience, its architectural grandeur, and its role as a cultural landmark. The surrounding area, steeped in history, also provides opportunities to reflect on Managua’s transformation through historical photographs and narratives.
We will proceed to Xolotlán Avenue, located alongside Lake Managua, where we will observe a scale model of Old Managua. This detailed recreation showcases the city’s layout and architecture as it existed before the devastating earthquake that destroyed much of the original capital. The exhibit offers a poignant glimpse into Managua’s pre-earthquake vibrancy, blending historical accuracy with storytelling to highlight the city’s resilience and transformation. Visitors will gain insight into the urban and cultural identity of Old Managua, preserved through this tribute to its past.
Our last stop will be Puerto Salvador Allende, formerly known as the Malecón de Managua (waterfront promenade). This iconic site is steeped in national culture, nestled alongside Lake Managua and offering stunning views of the water. What makes this location uniquely special are the "Trees of Life" (Árboles de la Vida), striking sculptures that symbolize Nicaragua’s artistic and environmental spirit. Visitors will experience the blend of natural beauty, cultural pride, and historical significance that defines this vibrant public space.
