Take the Asakusa line to Asakusa station. Walk out at Exit 4! We meet at the Burger king, right outside of the station :)
Standing majestically before the main hall, this grand two-story gate is guarded by two fierce Nio statues—protectors of the temple’s sacred inner grounds. On the back of the gate, you will find a pair of massive "O-waraji" (giant straw sandals) weighing 500 kilograms each, hung as a symbolic deterrent to ward off evil. Originally built to store precious Buddhist scriptures, the gate is beautifully illuminated at night, offering a stunning, spiritual atmosphere that contrasts with the vibrant energy of the day.
This scenic observation deck offers a breathtaking bird’s-eye view of Asakusa, featuring the vibrant Nakamise shopping street leading to Senso-ji Temple on one side and the Tokyo Skytree® towering over the Sumida River on the other. It is the perfect spot to capture the contrast between historic temple rooftops and modern architectural marvels from an open-air perspective—all for free. With a cozy cafe on-site, you can relax and soak in the panoramic beauty of Tokyo’s traditional downtown area.
Start your Asakusa adventure at the world-famous Kaminarimon Gate, where the massive red lantern provides the ultimate backdrop for your Tokyo souvenir photo. After capturing the perfect shot between the formidable statues of the Wind and Thunder Gods, step through the gate into Nakamise, one of Japan’s oldest and most vibrant shopping streets. This 250-meter bustling promenade is lined with charming stalls offering traditional snacks like freshly fried manju and unique handicrafts, perfectly capturing the lively "shitamachi" atmosphere of old Edo.
With a history spanning nearly 1,400 years, Senso-ji is Tokyo’s most iconic Buddhist temple and a vibrant center of Japanese spirituality. Before approaching the main hall, join the tradition of fanning sacred incense smoke onto yourself, a ritual believed to promote health and healing. Don’t miss the chance to try your luck with "Omikuji" (paper fortunes); while Senso-ji is famously known for a high frequency of "bad luck" results, it only makes drawing a "good luck" fortune even more rewarding. Immerse yourself in the timeless atmosphere of prayer and tradition that defines the heart of Asakusa.
