Dachau is an incredibly important site in terms of modern history. Your private tour of Dachau will be led by a guide who has been trained and vetted by the Dachau Memorial.
They are passionate about the Memorial, the role Dachau played in the Holocaust and the wider implications for today.
We meet at the foot of platform 24 in the main train station (Hauptbahnhof). Your guide will have a sign reading "Dark History Tours"
We meet in the main station of Munich (Hauptbahnhof, HBF) at the foot of platform 24. The guide will have your name on a sheet of of paper. We meet in good time to grab a coffee or other refreshments. Depending on which train we take, journey time to Dachau is between 15 and 25 minutes. At Dachau we change for a connecting bus to the site. At our discretion we might opt for a cab or Uber for this last leg.
Dachau was the first permanent Concentration Camp (Konzentrationslager or KZ) established by the Nazis in 1933. Liberated by US forces at the end of April 1945, it was the longest running camp established by Hitlers regime. With your experienced and accredited guide you will visit the site and gain an understanding of why it was established and how its purpose and conditions changed in the 12 years it was in operation. A visit to Dachau will give a visitor an insight into the origins of the Holocaust, as well as considering other victims who fell foul of the Nazi regime. Please note that due to the nature of the themes covered, we are unable to accept children under the age of 14, even with a parent or guardian. Parents may take their children on their own, but as far as a guided tour goes, we are unable to facilitate this. (This is laid down by Dachau, not us - sorry)
