Mt. Hachimen is a landmark mountain for the area. It is called "Hachimen" (which means Eight-Faced) because it looks nearly the same from every direction. In ancient times, it was a sacred mountain for Shugendo (a form of mountain asceticism) and a center of mountain worship, and there are many historical sites related to this tradition. The clusters of giant rocks, once objects of worship, remain in their natural state, allowing you to directly feel the powerful energy of the earth.
KAGURA Practice
Through this trekking, you will visit Kyuu-Sendouji-ato and the inner sanctuary at Mt. Fudousan, one of the Rokugo Manzan Pilgrimage and Rituals, and Buddha figures carved on a rock surface by Shugensha. While hearing the natural wind sounds, you will feel “the power of wind,” which is one of the valued thoughts of kagura performers.
KAGURA Practice
The presentation begins with saying the ritual prayer to gods. Following the performance by kagura masters, the participants present a kagura performance, surrounded by the local people. This is the moment to show full efforts during the 4 day practice in front of gods.
