The octagonal shape of the Byzantine baptisteries has a strong symbolic value, with the eight sides representing the seven days of creation and the eighth day of resurrection and eternal life, thus connecting to the sacrament of Baptism. Originally dedicated to the Holy Apostles and later to Saint Peter, the Basilica of San Francesco dates back to the mid-5th century AD. Little remains of the original early Christian church due to numerous renovations over the centuries. We will see also Dante Alighieri's Tomb!
The Basilica of Sant’Apollinare Nuovo, built at the end of the 5th century, was commissioned by Theodoric, king of the Ostrogoths, to celebrate his victory over the Roman officer Odoacer in 493. Piazza del Popolo is the beating heart of Ravenna, famous for uniting the streets of the historic center and hosting events and displays, it was built by the Venetians between 1470 and 1480. I'll show you few cool things and stories here: get ready!
The Domus of the Stone Carpets is one of the most significant Italian archaeological sites discovered in recent decades. Particularly noteworthy is the mosaic of the “Dance of the Geniuses of the Seasons” which is located in the central part and represents the Seasons dancing in a circle to the sound of a syringe. Designed to bear witness to Byzantine grandeur, it has an octagonal plan, with a distinctive central architecture compared to the basilicas of the time. The Basilica of San Vitale has a simple exterior, but the interior is complex, with curves and rotating surfaces. Ticket Cost: 10,5 € (include also other monuments)

The Mausoleum of Theodoric is an architectural work of exceptional importance, recognized worldwide with the status of UNESCO World Heritage Site.
